Vegan Chicken Satay from 821; Richmond, VA
Legit mock chicken with a spicy/sweet peanut sauce. Usually when I see vegan chicken on a menu, I think of a breaded nugget or patty that tastes like the freezer. To my delight, these were nothing like what I expected them to be. I would definitely order this again.

Red Pizza w/ Onions, Mushrooms & Green Peppers from 8 1/2; Richmond, VA

Wildly greasy, but easily one of the best pizzas in Richmond. From the crust to the cheese to the toppings - It’s all so great.

Spring Pea Potato Leek Soup from C Street; Richmond, VA

This soup is lovely. It will sufficiently warm your insides and has a lot of flavor. It also comes with bonus little cheddar cheese toast points! C Street is located where Acacia used to be, in the beginning of Carytown. If you get the chance, dine outside. It’s great, especially now with Fall weather in full swing!

Pizza Benefit for Little House Green Grocery at Sub Rosa; Richmond, VA
Last night I had some truly inspired pizza - for a great cause. The Cheesus Christ was the vegetarian option, and it ruled. Wood-fired pizza is ridiculous. I also had the octopus appetizer, which was equally fantastic. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, or if you did and they ran out of pizza before you could order, worry not! They will be selling pizza every other Sunday from now on! Hoorah!

Cauliflower Ravioli from Graffiato; Richmond, VA

This space has always had a ton of potential, so I’m glad to see the transformation that Mike Isabella and his team has made - cause let’s face it, Popkin really sucked. This is Graffiato’s second location - the first being in DC’s Chinatown. They serve small plates and pizzas.

This ravioli was OK, but it wasn’t very hot, and the flavors weren’t spectacular, but I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt - it was their first night open. The cool part was that they have complimentary sparkling water! The un-cool part was that we never knew what we were going to get every time someone refilled our glasses. My friends and me ended our night with our glasses half full of sparkling water and half full of still. I guess it could’ve been worse, but it also could’ve been better…

Drip Coffee from The Lab by Alchemy Coffee; Richmond, VA

To most Richmond coffee-drinkers, Alchemy is known for it’s sweet, wood-paneled mobile cart that traverses the city making top-notch coffee and espresso drinks for the people of RVA. Now, in addition to their sweet cart, Alchemy has put down roots on Broad street, making it easier to grab a cup at any time of the day. The Lab is a great space and is an awesome addition to the block. In my opinion, Alchemy has done it right from day one, so if you haven’t already, go see what they’re all about.
